When I think of Thailand many, many things come to mind.  I think of all the good Thai food, I think of chaos in the form of driving, I think of warm weather, I think of tuk tuk's and songthaews and I also think of elephants (chang).  The first elephant I saw was in Phuket.  We had been living here for two months and we had family in town and we all spent a week in Phuket.

I’ve never seen a dark elephant before. My nephew just got back from Thailand. He is a rock climber and decided to try it there. When he was climbing he nearly put his hand on a black widow and got a small bite. He said he could see a sac of eggs hanging from her with tons of baby spiders inside. He was sick for a couple of weeks.

I think elephants are naturally darker when they’re young. They get pinker as they get older.
Your nephew’s experience sounds shocking. How hidious!
      I hope he recovered fully.
